WHAT IS CELLULITE?The term “cellulite” is incorrect, as it only takes into account the inflammatory component (itis=inflammation) of the subcutaneous tissue and adipose tissue. Nevertheless, this denomination has survived other subsecuent terms that were much more explicit. At present, cellulite is defined as a “vasculopathic dermopaniculosis” (according to Curri) as its physiopathological cascade involves the skin, subcutaneous cell tissue and the vascular structures of the affected area. However, the term “cellulite” is the one we will be using as it is the most popular term for this skin condition. Cellulite presents no risk to the individual’s health and it is not considered as a potential risk by doctors. However, it affects nearly the entire female population and can cause severe psychological trauma in these women.
