WHAT ARE SUSPENSION THREADS?Instituto Médico Láser provides patients with a complete report on all threads currently available in the market. These different types of threads have been enhanced to offer the best options for correction. Silhouette Lift, a novel recently introduced type of thread is totally precise and safe; provide better anchorage, excellent correction, and optimum results. Tissue Suspension: Push Up ThreadsThe aim of the technique is to reposition the facial and cervical structures that have been disfigured by flaccidness, by the use of tensor or tightening elements that avoid surgery. These tensor elements permit to correct the design to suit the patient’s needs. Placement is carried out at the level of the superficial hypodermis, under the epidermis and dermis, in the fat layer immediately beneath the skin. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia applied at the entry and exit sites of the tensor threads.
Aspirin should not be taken the days prior to surgery to avoid haematomas.
Immediately after the thread is positioned, mild inflammation lasting less than 48 hours develops. Nonetheless, this reaction is so mild that the patient is able to resume or continue with his or her normal activity immediately.
The administration of antibiotics is recommended for 4 days and the ingestion of non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents such as ibuprofen for 48 hours.
The tissue suspension technique is compatible with a subsequent surgical lift.
Touch ups may be performed by placing new threads some years after, if additional subsequent correction is required.
Main risks are:Extrusion: This is a reaction to a foreign body that results in the protrusion outwards of the thread outwards. It occurs in 1 of 2,500 cases and if it happens, the thread is easily removed by pulling at its external end.
Very superficial placement: If this occurs, it is noticed during the immediate postoperative period. In such case, the suture has to be repositioned in the correct position.
Deforming retractile fibrosis: This is a possibility that has never been observed before.
If the thread is blue in colour: It might be seen through the skin.
