LASER BLEPHAROPLASTY
WHAT IS IT?
It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that eliminates the fat deposits and excess skin in the periocular region and obtaining complete periocular rejuvenation.
WHAT IT CONSISTS OF:
The technique can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and is minimally uncomfortable for the patient.
UPPER EYELID PROCEDURE
1. The area to be resected is marked and the deposits localised.
2. Protective contact lenses are placed in the eye to isolate the ball from the rest of the area to be treated.
3. Local anaesthetic is injected into the skin (lidocaine-adrenaline).
4. Surplus skin is cold knife removed and the excess muscle is contracted with the laser. Fat is then extracted via a minimal laser incision that does not require suturing.
5. The upper skin wound is closed with an extremely fine, invisible suture that is removed within 5 days.
LOWER EYELID PROCEDURE
1. The deposits are marked.
2. Protective contact lenses are placed in the eye to isolate the ball from the rest of the area to be treated.
3. Local anaesthetic is injected into the skin (lidocaine-adrenaline).
4. An incision of a few millimetres is made through the conjunctiva, accessing the deposits and draining them. No stitching required.
5. The FX ACTIVE laser is swept over the lower eyelid skin to obtain an effective and safe effacement.
6. Plasma rich in growth elements can be added to accelerate the internal and skin recovery.
ADVANTAGES OF BLEPHAROLASER OVER CONVENTIONAL TÉCHNIQUES
1. More natural correction and scarring of the upper eyelid and no scars at all on the lower eyelid.
2. Natural correction of the excesses and defects of the periorbital skin.
3. Improved correction of crow's feet.
4. Allows for plasty (correction) of periorbitals that are too thick and prominent without slicing.
5. Patients with lax lower eyelids where conventional surgery is not possible can now de operated on with this method.
6. Less recovery and convalescence period, especially in the case of the lower eyelid (5 to 8 days for the upper and 4 to 5 for the lower)
7. Reduced risk of potential complications associated with eyelid surgery:
• Reduced risk of bleeding and bruising and therefore fewer complications derived from these (poor scar formation, lesions to the eye globe vessels and nerves).
• Less risk of poor scar formation with visible consequences. (very important in darker skins that heal poorly).
• Less risk of ectropion (unnatural eversion of the eyelid, exposing the whites of the eye and postsurgical roundness)
• Reduced risk of damage to the periocular region’s skin, muscles and septum.
• Possibility of simple relocation of fat to sunken areas.
RELATIVE DISADVANTAGES
1. More difficult surgical technique.
2. The patient should not be exposed the eyelid to direct sunlight without adequate protection (sun block or glasses) for 3 to 6 months, at physician’s discretion. For the first few days and depending on the seriousness of the condition, the lower eyelid will be red. The redness can be camouflaged after five or six days.
3. Patients with excess skin on the lower eyelid can not undergo this technique.
